Last Sunday, was a bit of an unusual Sunday excursion, not your typical day out in Barcelona but I have to say a definite hit with the kids!
After finding an advertisement in one of the bakeries in Castelldefels for "walking dogs" the children were desperate to check it out. They are all big animal lovers, and the home would be more like a zoo if they had their way! Fortunately, we have Lucky our own dog who would definetely never entertain another member of the animal kingdom sharing his territory.

Excitedly we set off to La Sentiu, which can be found in the hills of Gava. We were greeted by a lovely english couple who have been regularly walking the dogs for over a year. They introduced us to Rosa, who runs the refuge and we were given a dog each to take for a walk into the beatiful rugged countryside.
This procedure was repeated 3 times, so in fact we managed to walk 15, of the 200 dogs that are desperate to get out of their cages. I have never seen the children so keen to go walking...

The dogs themselves have all been sadly abandoned, which upon hearing several stories, seems to be common place in Catolonia and Spain. The dogs are friendly and seem to bear no grudges against the humans that have done this to them.
It goes without saying, that there is of course a bar, which also offers a menu. We are going back next sunday for more dog walking with a group of friends and also to sample the food which looked delicious.

La Sentiu is desperately looking for people to take the dogs out for walks, to give these poor animals at least a taste of something more than their kennel. Of course, all of these dogs are up for adoption. Anybody looking to have a dog in their home, this should be their first port of call, as with over 200 dogs to choose from, every taste is catered for.
