It’s been a hectic weekend so far, both kids are firmly into playing hockey for Barcelona and to them the most important part of the week is winning on a Saturday – they support anything Barcelona even football (my hubby says they’ve been brainwashed as he can’t understand why they don’t support Arsenal like him)!
This Saturday was a little different however, this Saturday my daughter’s team had to win or draw to win the championship. This it turns out is a big deal (who knew!!!). Both kids are in the garden on Friday evening practicing tackles, passes and shots – I would be a lot happier if they where wearing shin pads or even shoes but I suppose it makes them get their feet out of the way of the ball.
Saturday morning arrives and to say she’s a bit wound up is an understatement, we tell her to find her inner hooligan and she just looks at me and laughs – as she’s about 3 years younger than most of the other players she’s worked out she can get them in the ribs which they can’t do to her unless they get on their knees. We go and pick up Wonder Woman and her daughters as they all play in the same team then it’s off to Terassa with us grownups winding up the kids – well you’ve got to have some fun.
We arrive bang on the dot, with only a slight wrong turn detour where we found a totally different route into Terassa but as we arrived on time maybe it was better (lol). All the girls get together and there is lots of excitement and shrieking, they go off to train us grownups all go to the bar for coffee. Here’s where my difficulty starts I’m trying to have a conversation with a lovely couple but they don’t speak English so it’s out with my Catalan to English dictionary and it takes 10 mins to workout that he’s telling me about the Flags he’s brought with him and when he last used them, I have to say they are really nice and will wait until I have understood some of their words so I know what they are on about – but boy is it hard work.
Time for the match the girls all go into a huddle do their Barca chat and turn round to be confronted by a row of very excited parents all waving flags, blowing horns and shaking rattles – the girls crease up with laughter and we shout louder!!!
The game starts and it’s so tense and at half time it’s 0 – 0, I don’t think I can stand to watch the second half. Then finally we get a goal – the girls high 5 and hug we all stand and go crazy. It’s really tight game and it could still go either way then we get another goal and you get this feeling that it just might be our day.
The final whistle blows and we have won - the girls have won the championship – have to say I feel so proud of the girls they really played well all season. I am completely wrung out I didn’t know watching sport could be so tiring. And as supporters we won the day in the cheering competition the other side didn’t even come close – he he he.
So that’s it the girls won the league and now I have to do it all again next week for my son – I think I may need something to calm me down by next Saturday!!!
