The Castell de Montjuïc was built in the 17th century during the battle between Catalonia and Spain's Felipe IV, known as the "War of the Reapers". At the begining of the 18th century Bourbon troops ransacked the castle. It was rebuilt between 1751 and 1779. The new fortress is in the form of a starred pentagon, with enormous moats, bastions, and buttresses. The Catalans love the Castell as it represents hated oppression from the central government in Madrid, and is a place where tortures and executions took place over many years! Today, the castle is the home of the military museum (Museu Militar) with a collection of weapons, lead soldiers, and military uniforms.
