You must not forget that most of Barcelona's shops close for lunch, so don't plan that shopping trip between 1pm and 4pm! I suggest, start the shopping early and then find a nice place for Tapas or a menu del Dia! After a few beers or glasses of wine you will be able to go back when they open at 4 to spend, spend spend ( always a lot easier when you have had a drink or two!) The big department stores however, are normally open from 9am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday. Remember if you want to pay by credit card, you'll need some form of ID a passport or driving licence.
