Another weekend another party. This time it was my friend's (we call her Wonder Woman) birthday (41st actually but say it quietly), and some friends of hers where organising a surprise meal out - things being what they are it didn't work out as a surprise at all. In fact at our morning coffee meeting in the cafe we were planning what time to meet and what clothes to wear, yes sad I know but somethings never change no matter what your age!!
Anyway we met for pre-dinner drinks at a local bar in Castelldefels and then onto the Hotel Bel Air which, we have been told, has a wonderful restaurant. Now I have something of an issue eating in Hotels as in the past I have found them not overly cosy and I hate places where you can hear the sound of cutlery scraping, but being a group of 7 we soon put paid to the quietness of the restaurant, hmmmm perhaps now would be a good time to apologise to the few couples who where trying to have a quiet meal - ahhh well too late now. The make up of the group went like this 3 English, 1 German, 1 Austrian/Turkish and 2 Catalan that's a lot of different languages floating around the table. I think one of the best moments was when I was talking to one of the Catalan men in English and he was talking to me in Catalan neither of us understood what the other was saying but we both found the conversation increadibly funny (alcohol is a great communication leveler)!
Back to the Restaurant it was very swish and stylish - you know white walls minamalist decoration, but very nice I must say. For me I think this is a place for true foodies to go, they do a sample menu where you dont get to chose they just bring you a bit of everything (my hubby was very happy), unfortunatly for me I struggled a bit on finding a starter to eat and ended up with Pods and Mushrooms!! Actually it was OK a bit crunchy but OK, everyone else was very happy with what they had chosen. For the main I had chosen Sucking Pig which was very nice, but before the course was served they brought out the whole cooked pig to show that it was freshly cooked or something - god did I feel guilty eating it afterwards!!!
I skipped desert to go straight onto coffee as I had seen what came with the coffee, little individual tarts and chocies mmmmmmm they where lovely. By the time we had seen everyone else off finished our meal it was around 1am and Wonder Woman was up for more partying - me and hubby pleaded tiredness and with way too much to do the next day decided to call it a night. I think we made the right choice as a call to Wonder Woman the next day at 11.00am found her in bed nursing a hangover saying things like "never again". Turns out they had gone onto a bar and when that closed at 3am to a nightclub, where they decided they could show these young uns a thing or two!!! Finally returning home at some time after 5am.
Oh yes with my parents arriving that day we had made the right choice!!
